Dr. Joshua Schwimmer is a nephrologist and internal medicine doctor — a kidney and blood pressure specialist and medical doctor for adults — based in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
With over 20 years of clinical experience in nephrology and internal medicine, Dr. Schwimmer has received outstanding reviews from patients of all ages. In 2014, Dr. Schwimmer was recruited to join the full-time medical staff of Lenox Hill Hospital and Northwell Health Physician Partners, and he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. In practice with Dr. Mark Gardenswartz, Dr. Schwimmer sees patients at his East 59th Street office and hospitalized patients at Lenox Hill Hospital. As a “doctor’s doctor," Dr. Schwimmer is trusted to provide care to many physicians and their families. In addition, Dr. Schwimmer is a health technology consultant, a medical expert witness, and an advisor to tech companies (like Doximity). As a believer in using technology to improve health care, he also offers his patients direct communication by email.
Dr. Schwimmer grew up in Brooklyn and lives in NYC with his wife, daughter, and two rescued tortoiseshell cats.
An award-winning physician-teacher, Dr. Schwimmer trained with Dr. Gerald Appel at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Strong Memorial Hospital, and the University of Rochester Medical Center. Prior to being recruited by Lenox Hill Hospital, Northwell Health, and the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, he has also held appointments on the faculty of the Mount Sinai Medical Center, the Columbia University Medical Center, and the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Schwimmer has published more than 30 scientific papers, abstracts, and book chapters. His scientific publications are cited in the medical literature and in textbooks, and his research has been presented at national and international conferences. In addition, his work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times and he has been interviewed about medicine and technology by organizations including Google and Medscape. Dr. Schwimmer is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology.
